headshot of Beckie Horter Beckie Horter is a Christian blogger and former devotions editor for Proverbs 31 Ministries. After graduating from college with a degree in English, Beckie worked at the local newspaper as a correspondent and proofreader, until central vision loss forced her to resign and quit driving. Her condition is called degenerative myopia. It is similar to Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) in that the central vision is affected while the peripheral vision remains intact. It is not age-related; however, it is related to the shape of the eyeball. Degenerative myopia is more severe than other forms of myopia and is associated with retina changes, potentially causing severe vision loss. Beckie joined the peer advisors in 2017. She frequently writes about her faith journey, her vision loss story, and her favorite companions—a brother & sister golden doodle pair who make her smile every day.
