November 11 is Veterans Day, and VisionAware is honoring the veterans who have served us throughout the years, as well as highlighting the services that are available for veterans with vision loss.
Services for Veterans with Vision Loss
These services are housed in Blind Rehabilitation Services (BRS) at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Through the BRS, you can find out about their Continuum of Care. According to their site, “VA is the first and only national healthcare system to completely and seamlessly integrate rehabilitation services for patients with vision loss into its health benefits. This ensures that patients receive the finest medical and rehabilitative care, as well as cutting-edge assistive technology.” Further, “BRS serves Veterans and active duty Service members with vision loss that cannot be corrected with regular eyeglasses and who are having difficulty with one or more tasks.” Their factsheet outlines the types of services they provide and the eligibility criteria.
