Brief Description

Founded in 1971, the University Eye Center is the patient care facility of the State University of New York College of Optometry. It is one of the largest vision care clinics in the country with more than 75,000 patient visits annually.

Its specialty services include:

• comprehensive psychoeducational and neuropsychological testing for children and adults with learning disabilities

• a world-renowned vision therapy and vision rehabilitation program

• the only freestanding optometric head trauma unit in the country

• a children with special needs unit, one of few programs in the country dedicated exclusively to children with conditions that make routine vision care difficult or impossible

• social work services and support groups lead by licensed clinical social workers

• laser vision correction as an alternative to eyeglasses and contact lenses

• specialty contact lenses and ocular prosthetics for patients with a variety of vision problems and

• low vision evaluations and rehabilitation

Services Offered

  • Low Vision Services
    • Offers comprehensive low vision evaluation to carefully assess the patient’s current visual status, identify goals and visual needs and design an individualized rehabilitation program to meet these needs. Additional services include helping visually impaired patients utilize computers with adaptive equipment and assessing if visually impaired patients can drive with limited licenses.
