headshot of Dolores

Dolores has been working in the field of blindness and visual impairments since 1981. Trained as an orientation and mobility specialist, she earned a master’s degree in visual disabilities from Florida State University in 1980 and a master’s degree in pastoral ministries from St. Thomas University in 2009;

She currently works as public awareness project leader for Lighthouse of Broward, pioneering a new program -the first in the nation- that includes the spiritual component in the rehabilitation process.

She has worked with local Catholic churches and religious educators to make parishes more aware of the needs of the visually impaired, and to help the visually impaired “see” their churches by taking tactile tours of their sanctuaries.
