Brief Description
Low vision evaluations and care, at 13 doctor's offices and eye centers throughout Utah. These doctor's offices and eye centers are the length of the state, from Logan to St. George. Persons of all ages and all eye conditions are served. Services include functional evaluations, history and review of low vision needs, dispensing low vision devices (both optical and digital/electronic) with the doctors, training and follow-up with such items as encouraging eccentric viewing, instruction in other areas such as improved illumination, enhanced contrast, and adaptations in the home, school, and work site. Referrals are also given to appropriate other services, including library for the blind, support groups, and other valuable resources.
Services Offered
- Low Vision Services
- Provides comprehensive low vision care to persons of all ages, in most major cities in Utah. Services are given in 13 doctor's offices and eye centers from Logan to St. George. Care includes functional evaluations, history and review of low vision needs, dispensing with the doctors of helpful low vision devices (both optical and digital/electronic), training (both with devices and with eccentric viewing), and instruction with improved illumination, enhanced contrast, and adaptations for the home, school, and work site. In some situations, follow-up home visits are also offered to further help persons in their home setting. Orientation and Mobility training is also offered when desired. Referrals are also given to other helpful resources, including the library for the blind, support groups, and others. Low Vision Rehabilitation Services also provides evaluations and care for children, ages 3 to 21. Referrals are accepted from teachers and school districts, eye doctors, parents, or others. Following evaluation in one of the 13 doctor's offices, follow-up training, services, and functional evaluations with recommendations can be provided in the child's school or home.
